Point 65 and the Stockholm Kayak Marathon

First and second place for the Point K1XP!
The 350 participants started the day in rain but the race ended in sunshine. Around 350 paddlers participated in the 40km and 20 races. As they came in during the afternoon they where treated by Point 65 with sandwiches and beverages in our tent which was provided by our co-sponsor Red Bull.

Fastest on the 40 km race was Magnus Silverbrand who pulled in way ahead of the pack in his extreme surf-ski. Mikael Westlen came in on 4th place in a Point K1XP just behind a pack of racing kayaks.




On the 20 km race Erik Gustavsson came in first with a very convincing margin in a Point K1XP, the fastest single kayak in all categories! Not what we had expected in a field filled with racing kayaks made in diverse exotic materials. Only 5 minutes behind Erik, Arne Wahlberg paddled into second place in the 20 km race - also in a Point K1XP! Arne who is 60 plus years old made evident that the Point K1XP is one of the fastest touring kayaks around, primarilly designed for 1-2 week excursions!

Both Erik and Arne got trophies and the special 5000 SEK cash price from Point 65 was awarded to Erik on the 20 km race and to Mikael Westlen for being the fastst Point 65 kayak in the 40 km race. Mikael and Erik normally train in a K2 full-time for the 2008 Olympics.




After the price ceremony the lottery was started where all paddlers had a chance to win a brand new Point K1XP. Jakob Hammarbäck became the overjoyed winner. He had paddled with 4 friends and was the only one in his party who didn't own his own kayak, but went home as an XP owner.

A feast was then laid out at the banquett which was accompanied to live music.
